This Sunday, July 26, come by Churchill’s Pub to catch two films selected by David of experimental pop scream vanguard project, Echo Beauty Terror.
We’ll open with Stoney Knows How (29 min), shot by Les Blank and directed by Alan Govenar and Bruce “Pacho” Lane — a portrait of Stoney St. Clair, a paraplegic tattoo artist who spent fifty years working circuses and carnivals before becoming a quiet legend of the craft.
We’ll follow that with Errol Morris’s legendary Gates of Heaven (83 min) — Morris’s 1978 debut, ostensibly about two competing pet cemeteries in Northern California, and secretly about grief, ambition, and the American dream. Roger Ebert called it one of the ten greatest films ever made (but who cares what that guy thinks!!)
Heads up: since this is the last Sunday of the month, Churchill’s will be hosting their flea market, so we’ll likely be screening outside or in the green room. More info on the flea market here.
Last Week — Out of the Blue
Thank you to everyone who came out to see Out of the Blue last Sunday. And thank you to Miles for choosing it. He knew I’d love it, and I think that may have been the first movie screened where I got a little emotional! Love you forever, Miles M.
