About the Kinoplex

The Kinoplex is a weekly movie night held every Sunday at 8:30pm at Churchill’s Pub. Typically we now show movies inside the bar in the main room, but at times I play them outside in the patio or in the green room.

Anyone from the community can “guest host” by picking a movie and saying a few words about why they chose it. Filmmakers are also welcome to show their own work, often pairing it with a film that inspired them or one they just want to have shown. Past guest hosts have included South Florida film community hitters like Xander Robin (The Python Hunt), Katharine Labuda, archivist and librarian for the Miami Dade Public Library System, and Luis Cabrera of Miami Moviegoers, among many others.

History

Before Churchill’s reopened in September 2025, Rat Bastard asked if I wanted to start a weekly movie night there. I said yes, and I’ve been doing it ever since. I like giving people a say in what gets shown and seeing what other people are excited to put in front of an audience. I’m very grateful for all the time spend watching movies with people week after week.

The Kinoplex is not an institution, arthouse or film club. It’s a movie night series held in a bar with a projector and a screen. I try to use it as a way to make space for films outside the usual Miami options, without the structure or expectations of a traditional cinema.
