About the Kinoplex

The Kinoplex is a weekly movie night held every Tuesday at 8:30pm at Churchill’s Pub. As long as the weather cooperates, we screen films outside on the patio. When it doesn’t, we hold screenings in the green room (aka the Micro Micro Cinema).

Anyone from the community can “guest host” by picking a movie and saying a few words about why they chose it. Filmmakers are also welcome to show their own work, often pairing it with a film that inspired them or one they just want to have shown. Past guest hosts have included South Florida film community hitters like Xander Robin (The Python Hunt), Michael Arcos (Valerio’s Day Out), and Luis Cabrera of Miami Moviegoers, among many others.

You can email me at katie@kinoplex.net. Keep up with us on Letterboxd here!

History

The Kinoplex started as a regular movie night with my friends Stanley, Marilyn, Jenn, and (and meeee). We’d rotate houses and each person came prepared with a movie none of us had seen. We’d draw a title from a hat and watch whatever got picked.

Before Churchill’s reopened in September 2025, Rat Bastard asked if I wanted to start a weekly Tuesday movie night there. I said yes, and I’ve been doing it ever since. I wanted to hold on to what made those early nights with my friends special: letting people have a say in what gets shown and keeping it low-pressure.

The Kinoplex is not an institution or a formal ~arthouse~ — it’s a movie night series held in a bar with a projector and a screen (although in the future I would like to take this show on the road where I can!). I try to use it as a way to make space for rare/weird films outside the usual Miami options, without the structure or expectations of a traditional cinema.
